High above Loch Ness, on the edge of the Caledonian tundra, The
Clayworks nestles under an ancient fortress in wild birch and oak
woodland. Here Rebekah Allan, the Highland potter, continues a long
tradition of artisan pottery.
Rebekah's work is a blend of elegance and earthy practicality that recalls the workmanship quality of former times in a wholly contemporary manner. The glaze colours and patterns echo the seasonal shades of the surroundings and you can easily find in her finishes the shimmering surface of the Loch, the particular clarity of the Highland summer sky or the tawny golds, browns and reds of the sylvan setting.
Much of the production, including full sets of plates and bowls, and tea sets, is made to order. A particular speciality is the Wedding Plate or Loving Cup with lettering to the customer's order. The domestic ware and the ornamental pieces, with their distinctive maker's stamp, are attractive to collectors world-wide.Open all hours, all year round, for bowls, mugs, jugs, nightlights, oil-lamps, vases and more.
